To Blog or not to Blog?
To Blog or not to blog?... that is the question. We'll I'm blogging then!
Just finished a bacon not bacon and egg butty. I'm back from the gym and found it calming and inspiring. Blokes and lasses my age and younger warily clocking each other. and then getting on with the grind. Flushed faces, stretching, humping weights. filling their fancy water bottles. I've met a few fans who sidle over and say..'Thought it was you.'
It was June 2024 when I took the plunge after reading in the Guardian that you lose muscle mass in your sixties and seventies so..get to the gym!.. and lift some weights. I would never have entertained going to the gym before. It sounded threatening. I used to run everywhere, usually up and down the canal,
but my knees started to play up and I needed an alternative.
Some folks, usually men, make a lot of noise. They have no waists, and massive chests, mini headphones, and sing out of tune. They love to throw their barbells down after a successful lift, and expect other gym members to be aware of their journey to perfection.
There are little overweight Asian women fully dressed, sitting gently pedalling their exercise bike and texting India at the same time.
Most folk are gentle and law abiding, happy to get on with their exercise regime, and give you a quick smile if they've seen you before.
I will check myself out in the mirror (it's massive!) occasionally and am surprised that I don't look that bad!
I've been going a year, and there are no major physical signs but I do feel extremely content and calm when I'm done.
My mate told me when I first started 'Don't overdo it .Don't try and lift too much , or you'll hurt yourself and you won't go back'.
So I don't and I'm still enjoying it.
